2015: Week 21 at the Source (Week 23 in the market)

Torrential downpours continue across the coastal plain regions, resulting in an accumulated 228.7 mm (9 inches) of rainfall during week 21. While the almost daily showers can impact farmers and require some change to practices, we remain positive. Better the rainfall on the plains and not in the mountains – as this would cause rivers to flood adjacent areas. Naturally, we’re keeping a Costa Rican attitude!

On that note, it’s important to point out to our customers that eating quality of the fruit remains unaffected by the climatic conditions. We are reporting some variability among fruit aroma, but overall sweetness levels remain outstanding.

Speaking of sweet, this week’s harvested fruit has been “kissed by nature.” Learn more about the affectionate term and how the weather predicted for Week 22 will affect later harvests, by signing up for our weekly reports. Click here to receive each week’s full industry report.
