The Perfect Pineapple Report 2021: Week 52

  • Early week heavy downpours turned less intense  as the week progressed. Accumulated precipitation varied dramatically by location:
    • Caribe Farm registered 70.4mm (2 3/4 inches) of rainfall
    • Santa Clara, located in the foothills, recorded a  much higher  211, 8 mm (8 1/4 inches)
    • The minimum air temperature rose to 22,5°C (72,5°F); the average remained stable at 26°C (78,9°F).
    • Soil temperature was 25,9°C (78,6°F).
    • Solar radiation was mostly very overcast.
    • Relative humidity rose to 87,5%.
  • The farms continued to reduce the harvest age
    • 73.7% of the fruit was harvested at 20 WAF;
    • 11.9% at 21 WAF
    • 14.4%was even younger at 19 WAF.
  • Even with harvest age reduction we have been able to maintain sugar content  stable and  reduced outlier fruit with brix greater than 15.5. The standard deviation of the brix measurements remained below 1.0 in all farms.
  • Slight decline in Covid 19 infections. The first case of the Omicron variant detected this week in an 8-year old boy
