The Perfect Pineapple Report 2022: Week 6

Click here to read this week’s farm report.

  • January is one of the driest “rainy” season  months in the last 5 years and one of the coldest too
    • Just 2 mm (0,08 inches) of rainfall reported this week
    • Minimum temperature dropped to 19.4 Celsius degrees (67.4°F)
    • Several nights the minimum dipped below 20°C (68°F)
    • The minimum average air temperature = 25.4°C (77.7°F)
    • Soil temperature reached 25.8°C (78.4°F)
    • Solar radiation was intense most of the week with risk of sunburn and “corky” fruits
    • Relative humidity decreased to 78.4% – rather low for our tropical conditions
  • Still to early to asses severity of “Natural Flowering” that may have been caused by low temperatures
  • Harvest age is being held steady
    • Most  fruit continues to be harvested at 20 WAF (79 %)
    • Nonetheless more fruit than last week was picked at 21 WAF (21%)
    • None was harvested at 19 WAF
    • We soon expect to increase harvest age given climatic conditions
  • All good husbandry practices on schedule
  • Quality is good but we need to improve external color and firmness of the pulp
  • Covid infections rose by 38% from prior week
