2014: Week 43 at the Source (Week 45 in the market)

Moving away from the slight effects of last week’s low pressure system, this week’s perfect climatic conditions have accelerated sugar levels and the maturation process of the fruit. Interior coloration has also become more yellow – typical of this variety.

Watching these trends over the last few weeks, we have decided to aggressively reduce the fruit’s harvest age to avoid over-maturation before harvesting. On the shipping front, we have experienced labor unrest in Costa Rica’s Port of Limon and in the States’ West Coast port locations. Naturally, there exists a degree of uncertainty, yet we seem to be loading, shipping and receiving with manageable delays. Union leaders and government officials in Costa Rica are meeting as we write.
