The Perfect Pineapple Report 2022: Week 1

  • The rainy season was slow to start this year but has gradually built to normal level.
    • Heavy showers accumulated 76.8 mm (3 inches) of rainfall in farm Caribe
    • Santa Clara continues to record much higher precipitation –  (138 mm – 5.4 inches)
    • The average minimum air temperature declined to 22,1°C (71,7°F)
    • The average fell to 24,9°C (76,9°F)
    • Soil temperature rose slightly to 26,1°C (79°F)
    • Solar radiation ranged from moderate to low with several overcast days
    • Relative humidity reached 90,2%.
  • Climatic conditions having an  impact
    • External color  > 50% of our fruit with color zero
    • Volume of large fruit (5 and 6 count) at the lowest for the year
  • Harvest age adjustments continue
    • 84.2% of our fruit harvested at 20 WAF
    • 7.1% harvested at 21 WAF and 8.7% at 19 WAF
  • Harvest age strategy is working well –
    • Average sugar content remained above 15 brix
    • Readings below 13.5% sugar content were very low
    • And fruit with brix greater than 15.5 declined to 29.2%
    • Sugar content, flavor, taste and aroma are outstanding! 
  • Just as the rest of the world, Costa Rica registered increase in Covid infections
    • 1.380 new cases reported –  134% increase from prior week.
