5 Healthy Ways to Incorporate Pineapple into Your Diet and Lifestyle

Perfect Ways to Incorporate Pineapple into Your Daily Wellness Routine

Pineapples are rich in vitamins and minerals that can do wonders for the body when consumed regularly. Specifically, they contain high amounts of manganese which is part of the antioxidant enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD). SOD is known for its anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties and works to improve bone mineral density and reduce the risk of illness.

At Chestnut Hill Farms, we grow the MD2, the sweetest, most aromatic pineapple available. Not only is the MD2 uniformly delicious and sweeter compared to other pineapples, it’s four-times higher in Vitamin C and less acidic, which makes it a great food to incorporate into your wellness routine.

Here is a list of 5 ways you can start incorporating pineapple into your diet and lifestyle:

1. Add Pineapple to Your Favorite Smoothie

Add pineapple chunks or pureed pineapple to any smoothie for a tropical flair or replace the ice in your favorite smoothie with pineapple for a thicker consistency and improved gut health.

2. Make a Fresh Pineapple Salsa

We love to blend the sweetness of our Perfect Pineapple with a little spice. Mix together some diced Pineapple with red bell peppers, onion, jalapeño, cilantro and lime for a sweet and savory light-weight salsa that can be added to any dish or served as an appetizer with tortilla chips.

3. Create a Detox Drink

One easy way to add pineapple and other fruits and vegetables to your diet are through juicing. For this recipe you’ll need baby kale, fresh ginger and of course pineapple.

  1. Rinse baby kale.
  2. Peel and chop pineapple.
  3. Peel and mince ginger.
  4. Add the kale, pineapple, ginger, water and ice to a blender and blend for your desired consistency. Pour into a glass and enjoy or store in mason jars and refrigerate for later.

4. Use it in a Face Mask

Pineapple is also known for its benefits in beauty and skincare products. The Vitamin-C packed fruit exfoliates and brightens the skin because it is rich in alpha hydroxy acids (AHA) and beta-hydroxy-acids (BHA). These acids are known for their ability to remove dead skin and other impurities.

Combine ¼ cup of fresh pineapple with a tablespoon of coconut oil and apply it to your face and neck. Let the mask sit for 10-15 minutes then rinse. This fun mask can be used weekly to spruce up your skincare routine and improve your complexion.

5. Try a Hair Mask

Combining fresh pineapple with unrefined, cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil and applying it to your hair will help restore brittle, dry ends. Mix together the ingredients to create a thick paste and massage it into your scalp and throughout your hair. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes then wash out thoroughly. The Vitamin-C in the pineapple will protect the hair against radical damage while the olive oil helps to seal in moisture and reduce frizz.
